This deep talk session was first broadcasted live on February 22, 2022, during the World Exhibition Expo 2020 (postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic). It featured experts like James Lundström of Volvo Cars, Christina Wanhainen of Luleå University of Technology, and Göran Persson, chairman of LKAB and former prime minister of Sweden.

Minerals and metals are the start of virtually every value chain, from construction to farming and the supply of clean water. This is why we at LKAB often say that “everything starts in the mine”.

The mining and minerals industry will be essential to enable the global climate goals outlined in the Paris agreement as well as the sustainable development goals, as adopted by the United Nations in 2015. How can the industry rise to the challenge and become part of the solution?

Our ground-breaking efforts in Sweden is one example of how mines can become a part of the circular economy, turning today’s waste into tomorrow’s resources. Extracting rare earth elements and phosphorus, we will help other industries go carbon-free.

In this deep talk, thought-leaders from EIT Raw Materials, McKinsey, Volvo, Luleå University of Technology and LKAB discusses the current status and challenges going forward. Join the conversation on minerals for change in the video above.
